With the use of collage, animation, and repurposed instructional videos Dream Phone creates a wacky mixed media narrative concerned with ideals about dating and outdated ways of thinking. Was it all a dream? Unfortunately it bears the harsh mark of reality: you can’t make those weird teen instructional videos up! In all seriousness Dream Phone plays like if yummy pink bubblegum had a cynical heart.
It’s very fun to look at. The animation is vibrant, and the editing is fast but coherent. Kendra weaves her different mediums together into an energetic commentary on women, dating, and the weird social spaces we inhabit every day.
